Uncle Charlie Edwards
Orlando, Florida |
'Uncle' Charlie Edwards was an Orlando, Florida lure maker about whom little is known. He began making lures sometime in the 1940's and it not clear how long he made them. Many of his lures have some variation of UNC Charlie hand written or stenciled on the side or belly. Many of his baits also have the lure name hand written or stenciled. It is not known how Charlie Edwards came to be known as Uncle Charlie. The most common Uncle Charlie bait was the banana lure. They are most often found painted yellow with a red head. There is a seemingly endless variety of spot patterns and text on these lures. It would be easy to build a fairly large collection of red and yellow banana lures without having any duplicates. Uncle Charlie also painted banana lures in colors other than red and yellow, but they are rather hard to come by. It is clear that Uncle Charlie Edwards was inspired by the banana lures and paint patterns of Jim Pfeffer, who was another Orlando lure maker. |
