Dixie
Bait Company
Daytona Beach, Florida |
The Dixie Bait Company was a small operation
that was in business for only a couple of years in the late 1930's. Though the box in the picture says Orange City, the company was actually located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Boxes have been found with the names of both cities. The 1937 Orlando City Directory showed Dixie Bait Company in Daytona Beach. It also showed a young man by the name of John Marsh as an employee of the company. Years later Johnny Marsh would go on to start his own lure making company. One of the principals of the Dixie Bait Company was Richard Porter. Several years after Dixie Bait went out of business, he would go on to form the Porter Bait Company, which became one of the largest lure makers in Florida. |

Dixie Bait Company Shiners | ||
Dixie Bait Company made shiners in a variety of shapes and color patterns. The rigging on these lures was quite sturdy, as they were designed to catch big fish. |
We are always interested in adding to this collection. Please send an email if you have any Dixie Bait Company lures or boxes for sale or trade. Visit my page about Antique Florida Lures to see other lure makers from Florida. |
